Doddington & Wimblington Speedwatch
We have carried out a few sessions in our villages, over the past few months, on roads that carry a 30mph speed limit. However, the lack of VOLUNTEERS makes it difficult to do more than just one session every couple of weeks.
The mere fact of the presence of the speedwatch group does slow down traffic, albeit just for the time we are there. However, the more we can increase the occasions we are monitoring traffic the more we can impact the speed of the traffic through our villages.
All drivers exceeding the 30-mph speed limit will have received a letter from Cambs Police advising them of the speed limit on that stretch of road, making them aware of the dangers of speeding. If the same car is recorded three times the registered owner will get a visit from the constabulary!
Speedwatch does work. It does raise awareness of the speed limit in our villages, and it does act as a visual reminder to drivers to be mindful of the dangers of breaking the limits.

The training is very easy, just a short video and guidance notes to read, followed by a first session with three trained volunteers, then you are ready to go. We only ask for an hour every couple of weeks. So not a huge investment of your time.
